Capital Development Accelerates: Core Projects Set for Completion by 2028

The 33,000-acre Amaravati capital region is witnessing renewed progress as the government ramps up efforts to complete the core capital's construction as quickly as possible. Ponguru Narayana, Andhra Pradesh's Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD), has announced that all connecting roads are expected to be completed within a year, while the core capital buildings should be ready in three years.
Mr. Narayana, serving his second term as MAUD Minister since the formation of bifurcated Andhra Pradesh, has played a pivotal role in the land acquisition and planning of the proposed capital. He has assured that necessary financial arrangements are already in place to support the project.
In a recent interview at the Secretariat, Mr. Narayana detailed the plans, stating, “We are planning five towers with 45 to 50 floors for the Secretariat and Assembly, consolidating the administration into one location. Ministers, Secretaries, department heads, and staff will work in the same complex to ensure efficient governance. Additionally, the High Court building and road network are top priorities, with road construction slated for completion within a year and core capital buildings targeted for completion within two and a half to three years.”
A ceremonial puja was recently conducted by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Mr. Narayana at the site of the proposed ₹160 crore, seven-story Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) office building in Amaravati.
The minister also addressed challenges related to previous contractors from the 2014-2019 period, who are unable to continue due to cost escalations. A technical committee has been established to finalize the closure of these contracts, with a report expected by the end of October. The estimation process will conclude in November, tenders will be invited in December, and construction work is set to commence in January 2025.
