Development Projects in Amaravati to Resume Soon

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu recently chaired a crucial CRDA (Capital Region Development Authority) meeting to revive key development works in Amaravati. The authority approved proposals worth ₹11,467 crore for various construction and infrastructure projects under its first phase. These projects include roadways, flood management systems, and residential complexes, which are set to commence in January.

Key Approvals:

Major Road Projects:

₹2,498 crore allocated for the construction of vital roads to improve connectivity, including linking Amaravati to the Chennai-Kolkata National Highway.

Flood Management Systems:

₹1,585 crore approved for the development of gravity canals at Palavagu and Kondaveeti Vagu, along with the construction of reservoirs to manage water flow.

Residential Projects:

₹3,523 crore set aside for housing for government employees, including All India Service officers, gazetted and non-gazetted staff, and Class IV employees.

Farmer Layouts:

Development of layouts for farmers who contributed land under the land pooling scheme will be undertaken at a cost of ₹3,859 crore.

New Tendering Process:

Old tenders issued before 2019 have been canceled, and new tenders will be floated to reflect current market rates. This includes the Happinest Project, with revised estimates of ₹984 crore, to address project delays and associated costs of ₹270.71 crore.

Financial Sources and Timelines:

The World Bank and the Asian Development Bank will fund a significant portion of these projects. Approvals for iconic structures, such as the Assembly and High Court buildings, are expected by December, with work commencing in January.

Progress on Pending Projects:

• The construction of 115 bungalows for senior officials, delayed since 2019, will now resume with a ₹516.6 crore budget.

• Basic infrastructure for residential quarters, including Type-1, Type-2, and non-gazetted staff apartments, will be completed with an additional ₹607.5 crore.

Flood Management and Green Initiatives:

The authority approved flood prevention measures across three packages costing ₹1,585.95 crore, utilizing World Bank and ADB funds. These packages will address water drainage and improve greenery in Amaravati.

Land Allocation and Layouts:

The CRDA has divided land pooling zones into seven LPS (Land Pooling Scheme) zones, covering 8,496 acres. Infrastructure development in these zones will proceed with an estimated budget of ₹3,859.66 crore.

Project Management and Oversight:

The CRDA has also greenlit the appointment of a Project Management Consultant for comprehensive monitoring of floodwater management and greenery projects. Pending bills for contractors will be cleared within 120 days, as recommended by the technical committee.

Minister P. Narayana emphasized the integration of 16 major roadways with national highways, signaling robust connectivity improvements for Amaravati’s eastern and western corridors.
