Controversy Surrounds Amaravati's R5 Zone Land Allocation
The Amaravati R5 Zone, a special area designated for housing allocations in Andhra Pradesh's capital region, has become the center of a heated controversy. Farmers and local residents have raised concerns over irregularities in land distribution, with allegations of favoritism and mismanagement.
According to recent reports, 2,096 plots in Thadapalli mandalam were allocated to 313 individuals, while 3,732 plots in Mangalagiri mandalam were given to 573 people. These allocations have sparked protests, with farmers claiming that their lands were forcibly taken under the Land Pooling Scheme, which was initially touted as a successful model for urban development.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court has intervened, staying the construction of houses in the R5 Zone. The court's decision came after petitions highlighted potential legal and procedural violations in the allocation process. The Supreme Court has also declined to interfere with the High Court's order, further complicating the situation.
The controversy has drawn attention to the broader challenges of urban development in Amaravati, with critics arguing that the capital region's development has been marred by political and administrative inefficiencies. As the legal battles continue, the future of the R5 Zone remains uncertain, leaving thousands of beneficiaries and farmers in limbo.
