Andhra Pradesh Government to Acquire 30,000 Acres for Amaravati Expansion

The Andhra Pradesh government announced plans on April 15, 2025, to acquire 30,000 acres of land near Amaravati through the Land Pooling Scheme (LPS).

The acquisition will involve 11 villages and aims to expand the capital city to meet increasing land demand from various institutions.

This initiative follows the first phase of the Land Pooling Scheme in 2015, which successfully pooled 34,000 acres. With the new acquisition, Amaravati's total area is projected to reach approximately 64,000 acres.

After the TDP lost the elections in 2019, the subsequent YSRCP government put the LPS on hold. The TDP-led NDA government, after returning to power in June 2024, initiated measures to pool the remaining 30,000 acres.

The government is reportedly facing pressure from agencies and firms seeking land allocation. Currently, only around 2,000 acres are available for allocation.
