Andhra Pradesh Government Revives Amaravati Project with Singapore Consortium

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to revive the Amaravati capital city project by re-engaging a Singapore consortium, marking a significant step in the state's infrastructure development. This decision comes after Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu met with External Affairs Minister Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in New Delhi on Friday, November 17, 2024, to seek approval for Singapore's participation in the project.
The Singapore consortium, comprising Ascendas Singbridge Pte Ltd and Sembcorp Development Ltd, had initially signed agreements with the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) in 2018 to develop the seed capital area in Amaravati. The project, spanning 6.84 square kilometers, was planned to be executed in three phases over 20 years. However, the project was halted in 2019 following a change in state government.
With the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) returning to power, the Amaravati project has been revived, and the Singapore consortium has expressed interest in participating again. Tenders for the project are expected to be called in December 2024, with the consortium required to re-enter the bidding process. This development is seen as a crucial step towards realizing the vision of Amaravati as a world-class capital city.
