Amaravati Construction Relaunched by Prime Minister Modi

Prime Minister Modi relaunched the construction of Amaravati, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh, on May 2, 2025.

During the ceremony, Modi laid the foundation stone for projects valued at ₹57,962 crore.

The Amaravati project was initially proposed in 2014 and commenced in 2015 under the then Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu. However, the project faced setbacks when Jagan Mohan Reddy's YSRCP assumed power in 2019, proposing a plan for three capitals instead of one.

Chandrababu Naidu, after returning to power in June 2024, resumed the Amaravati project.

The initial construction estimate for Amaravati in 2015 was ₹27,097 crore, which has now increased to ₹64,721 crore in 2025.

The Amaravati project involved pooling 33,000 acres of land from approximately 30,000 farmers.

In addition to the Amaravati relaunch, Prime Minister Modi also launched infrastructure projects worth ₹49,000 crore in Amaravati and other projects worth ₹9,500 crore in other parts of Andhra Pradesh.
