Amaravati Capital City Project Re-Initiated

The Amaravati Capital City project in Andhra Pradesh, spearheaded by N. Chandrababu Naidu, is being re-initiated. Prime Minister Modi is expected to lay the foundation stone for the ambitious greenfield city.

Currently, 38 projects are underway with a total value of ₹37,702 crore. The city is designed with assistance from Singapore and will comprise seven sub-cities.

Financial backing for the project is expected from several sources. The World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and the Government of India are anticipated to provide ₹15,000 crore. HUDCO has already agreed to a loan of ₹11,000 crore. Discussions are in progress with Germany's KfW bank for an additional ₹5,000 crore.

The overall estimated cost for the Amaravati project is ₹65,000 crore.

Educational institutions are also planned for the city. BITS Pilani is scheduled to be established by 2026, and buildings for XLRI are expected to be completed by 2028.
