Amaravati Canal Construction Progresses

Construction of the Kondaveeti Vagu canal in Amaravati is progressing rapidly. The 24-kilometer canal stretches from Ananthavaram near Kondapalem to the Krishna River, passing through Nekkalu, Shakamuru, and Neerukonda.

MVR Infra is the contractor for the Kondaveeti Vagu, Palavaagu and Gravity canal expansion works, totaling 40 kilometers. The project utilizes hundreds of dumpers and excavators to expedite construction.

The canal's dimensions vary along its course. From Ananthavaram to Shakamuru, the bed width will be 10 meters. From SRM University to Krishnayapalem, the width expands to 75 meters, with digging reaching depths of up to 10 meters.

The canal's design incorporates reservoirs and a lift irrigation project near Prakasam Barrage to channel water into the Krishna River. The project aims to control floodwater, promote tourism, and potentially enable transportation via boats and steamers.

The starting point of Kondaveeti Vagu is located near Ananthavaram. The canal's path includes Nekkalu, Shakamuru (connecting to a lake and a 50-acre balancing reservoir), and Neerukonda (near SRM University). Another reservoir is under construction near Krishnayapalem, where the Palavaagu also converges.

Current construction efforts involve vegetation clearing and focusing on the main canal's development. Gabion mesh work is underway at the Shakamuru reservoir.
